Recently Suganuma Sensei showed us a Nishi Shiki (Nishi System) book from 1944.

To quote Wikipedia, “Because Katsuzō Nishi was also an aikido teacher at Aikikai Hombu Dojo, many aikidoka were introduced to the Nishi Health System, resulting in the incorporation of certain exercises…” For example, the “kingyoundo” exercise we do in warm-ups, as well as the “Capillarity exercise” which we only do the arm-shaking part of after shin-kokyu, as well as Hifuku undō, the swinging of the body side to side while sitting in seiza, come from this system.
